Myofascial Restoration
(MFR)

This therapy loosens and hydrates the tissue using broad strokes with the therapist’s forearms, palms, soft fists, and sometimes knuckles.  It employs a slow technique with very little lubricant in order to “hook” into the appropriate layer of tissue (think dragging something through thick mud).  Techniques will never be used that exceed the client’s pain threshold, but often feel “deep” even when treating superficial areas.

Myofascial Restoration is ideal for those suffering from acute or chronic pain; research is finding the origin of many common pain complaints resides within the connective tissue (fascia) layers of our bodies.  MFR aides in the recovery process post-surgery by helping to prevent or correct compensation patterns and encourage scar tissue to develop in a way that it does not impede your health, movement, or level of comfort.  Likewise pre-surgery, MFR can help by making your tissue as healthy and resilient as possible, setting the stage for a smooth surgery and fast recovery.  Not in pain or scheduled to go under the knife? MFR is also great as a maintenance massage to provide general overall well-being of any body!  If you’re looking for corrective therapy for a postural issue, MFR can certainly help but Structural Integration is usually a better fit.

In general, this style of Myofascial Restoration is not a good fit for those hypersensitive to touch.  However, humans are complex beings and no two bodies are alike.  Please call me so that we can discuss your health history and hypersensitivities in greater detail.
